A little quilted case for my Clover Iron & tools

I had some of the Kona Modern Collection "Merlot" fabric left and made a padded/quilted cover for my new clover iron.  I also made a little holder with a zipper for the clover leaf iron stand and the screw driver, so hopefully I will not misplace them....

I just need to get a snap closure for the top flap.  I used a heat resistant liner.  It was a fun little project and I used up all the little bits of fabric I had left from the Challenge project of my Emmaline Bag, so this made me happy.  It's always great to use up fabric, so we can go get more!

Hope you like it.

My Kona "Merlot" bag is done - Yahoo

YAHOO, I am finished!  UFO Tuesday, just under the wire.  It's another UFO (un-finished object) completed!

I am sure you can imagine the smile on my face, and I must confess that I am really excited about this Emmaline Bag emmalinebags.com  Janelle's pattern is fantastic.  I did make my straps a little longer for what i want to use the bag for.

Okay, I admit I had to pick out the 'top stitching' and do it again.

I plan to use it to carry my stuff  (like fat quarters, door prizes, note book/journal etc.), to the guild meetings.

Cynthia cynthiaf.ca here it is, your fabric made into a bag.

Hope you like it, as much as I do.

Kona Modern Challenge - Update

My "Kona Modern Challenge" continues....

Okay back on the 7th of September when I was first discussing this challenge I was not entirely sure what I wanted to make with the piece of fabric I received  (Merlot designed by by Cynthia Frenette for Robert Kaufman).  I was thinking about making a bag of some type, but not exactly sure..so I went looking.....

and...while doing so I found and decided to make a purse.  The one I selected is designed by  Janelle at  emmalinebags.com

I purchased the PDF Pattern and am sure glad I did.  She has explained everything in such complete detail, along with lots of full color pictures which really does help..it's just amazing all the work she has put into this pattern to make it easy to sew.....

  The Emmaline Bag Pattern

Original piece of fabric received called "Merlot" in the Cynthia Frenette collection.  I did also purchase some Kona Coffee (1083) for the straps and bottom of the purse.   I did start cutting the fabric at the Sew In and got it started, and now I have completed the straps for the shell ..see below my progress to date...

  cutting the pattern pieces
       cutting more pattern pieces

start sewing the straps for the shell

 sewing more straps..

Made 4 straps and added square rings

pin straps to the purse shell pieces

sewing the straps to the shell pieces

Yahoo 2 straps with square rings attached on front & back pieces

sew sides and attach the bottom piece

bottom attached now press and top stitched.

the lining is attached turned inside out, pressed and pinned.  Now I need to do the top stitching, and make the handles....

As for the top stitching part, I really need to focus and concentrate on this...yikes, top stitching is not my thing... so I'll practise first....as I  really want to do a professional looking job...you know neat and tidy!

I also need to sew the handles and attach them through the square rings which I hope to get completed tomorrow....

I hope you like my purse so far...I love it, and am very excited to get it finished.

I am hoping this purse tomorrow will become part of my UFO-Tuesdays and instead of it being an "Un-finished Object" it will become a FINISHED OBJECT!

Thank you for stopping by....

Marimekko Fabric

 Marimekko Fabric

Fraser Valley Modern Quilt Guild,We're 2

FVMQG - Fraser Valley Modern Quilt Guild  - is 2 YEARS young!

A "SEW IN" was organized to make this great event.

There were door prizes - lots of door prizes - lots of goodies - and a Bunting Exchange of Celebration.  The bunting exchange; if you brought bunting you were entered into the exchange to receive a different bunting than the one you brought.

Cynthia made these very beautiful yummy pink iced cupcakes with the most adorable flag noting the FVMQG  logo on one side, and "we're 2" - celebrating the Guild's 2nd year anniversary on the other side.

Lysa brought awesome Lemonade..did I say "lots" of Lemonade.  It required us all to drink 5 glasses each so she did not have to take any home.

I won - my door prize; donated by Cathy (our Miss September 2012), consisted of a piece of awesome pink fabric with a tag that read: "1 yard of thrifted Marimekko home decor weight fabric, along with a hard cover journal to cover."

Yikes the pressure is on to make the cover for the journal.  I have never made a cover for a journal, but she does make it sound easy.  Thanks Cathy again for the door prize, and I am very happy to have won it... I'll do my best to post the picture of my new journal in the next day or two, and make you proud of my journal too.

I also won a  Package of 4, Me and My Sister Designs (Amanda, Dora, Charlotte and Bertha) donted by Rachel.   These 4 patterns make smaller quilts (from 19" x19" to as large as 31.5" x 31.5"), that she said will look awesome when done.  She said they are great patterns to help reduce your scraps.  We can never be too short of patterns for scraps, which seem to always be there, and seem never to end. Possibly I can make 1 of each pattern type and put them together to make a larger quilt.  Thank you very much Rachel (aka the Guild's Miss March 2012), you are an inspiration to us all.

I'd better get looking through my scraps and get these started.

I received Bunting made by Sherri (Miss Oct 2011) in the "bunting exchange."   She was so cleaver in that she made her bunting with folded up 5" square that could be unpicked and removed from the bias tape to incorporate in another project if you wish.  Sherri a very clever idea indeed.

All in all it was a great Sew In and I was very happy to have been part of the celebration and festivities.

Again, "thanks to all the ladies," who made the 2nd Anniversary of the FVMQG so GREAT!

A big thanks to everyone!!!!!!

Kona Modern Challenge - Cynthia Frenette Designer for Robert Kaufman Fabrics

Yikes, I am behind and have only just decided exactly what I am going to make!  This was a bit of a process due to the size of "print fabric" we received, although we can add Kona solids.  I had dreams of making a bag, then a quilt etc.  As a fairly new quilter my creative brain is sometimes lacking creative ideas.  With only 1/2 yard of the printed fabric given to each participant, it's kind of like shopping with champagne taste on a beer budget.  I do realize this is part of the challenge, but yikes it's not easy.

My friend Cathy at  cathy-blueberrypatch.blogspot.ca is so organized, and I really mean organized.  She has posted this morning her finished project, and it is great!  She is an awesome quilter and is very inspiring.  Check out her quilt.  I am sure you'll love it too!

I am hopeful I can post my completed project in the next day or two.  I am going to a sew in tomorrow with  Cathy and Cynthia Frenette cynthiaf.ca . Cynthia is the designer of the Kona Modern Collection for Robert Kaufman.   Merlot is the name of the 1/2 yard piece I received (please see my Aug 10, 2012 post so you can see the fabric piece I received).  I am hopeful I can get some help and assistance with my project from these very talented ladies.

"A quilter can always use some help from her Quilting Sisters."
